Smith & Wesson 960 fighting knife mint with
original leather sheath and box made in the USA. It is marked on the back
side First Production Run. It is 11-1/8" overall and
features a false edge 440 stainless steel blade with Kraton handle and a
stainless steel pommel with lanyard. It is model SW-960 with full tang in the S&W line.
This is one of the
series that came out about 1995 and it was called the Utility Bowie and
had a list price of $55.95 back then. It was one of the group that started the new
third generation S&W line of knives in the 1990's. Smith & Wesson came out with their first knives in the 1970's and stopped production in early 1980's. This first group of made in the USA knives is highly collected. Then they started again with a new line of knives later in the 1980's. They continued with the second group until the late 1980's or early 1990's and stopped the line again. The new third Smith & Wesson line started in the mid 1990's and is still going strong today. Most of the current Smith & Wesson line is not made in the USA. This is one of the third line of knives and came out in the beginning around 1995 and made in USA.
