Wells Creek Gun and Knife Works Combat Smatchet is mint with the great original sheath. The blade is 10" and it is 16" overall. Marked on the front tang Scottsburg, Oregon USA. The handle is polycarbonate or composite and the blade is stainless steel and 3/16" thick. It has a blind hole on one side of the blade tang (ricasso*) so the user can identify which of the two edges he is using even in the dark. The knife keeper that holds the knife in the sheath is lightly scuffed from where the double edge has rubbed against it going in and out of the sheath but it is not cut only rubbed. The Smatchet is a fighting knife based on the Celtic short sword and developed by Colonel Rex Applegate of the United States OSS and Captain William Ewart Fairbairn of the British Royal Marines. There are the signatures on the back of the blade from the men who designed the blade: Colonel Rex Applegate and Captain William Ewart Fairbairn. Several of their books are listed at the bottom of the page. I believe Bill Harsey made a custom Smatchet version for Rex Applegate in the early 1980s. Next I believe this Smatchet was made before the Al Mar model in the late 1980s which was made before the Boker model. And it looks like Boker has stopped making their model. Get it before it is gone! If you compare Wells Creek's Smatchet with any of the other ones that have been on the market you will see it is as good or better in fit, finish and quality. Notice the blade grind lines which are different than the Boker model. The sheath is very high quality with ridge liner, adjustable belt loop, tie down lanyard holes and pouch on front. Wells Creek Gun and Knife Works is no longer in business but below was their address. And it is also on the blade. Wells Creek Knife & Gun Works
