Thank you for your interest in my work.
Here you will see a few of my most popular styles. The knives which are shown are good for a wide range of uses, but are by no means the only types available.
I am, after all, a custom knifemaker
I made my first knife in 1985, when I found myself in need of a useful and handy blade. I continue to make knives which are intended to be carried and used. If you choose to collect and display them, that is fine. If, however, you want to get the most value and enjoyment from these knives, put one on, take it afield and use it!
BLADES
My primary steel is ATS-34. The heat-treat process I use takes over 30 hours, and produces a blade hardness of 61-62 HRc.
My blades are flat-ground with a dropped, rolled edge. Flat-ground blades are not as common as hollow-ground blades, because they require more time to make and are very labor intensive. To my way of thinking, flat-grinding is the best way to make blades, and therefore is the only way I do it. The dropped edge provides additional width to the blade to provide for years of use and sharpening. I polish the blades to a high satin finish.
Most of my fixed-blade knives have tapered tangs. Tapering reduces unnecessary weight and bulk, noticeably improving the balance of the knife.
The fixed-blade knives are normally made with a thumb groove in the left side of the handle for improved control when holding the knife sideways. Left-handed customers may order their knives with the thumb groove and sheath reversed.
SHEATHS
The sheaths, when made for right-handed people, are designed to be worn crossdraw in front of the left hip. This provides easy access and comfort when one is seated in a vehicle, a chair or is mounted on a horse.
LINER-LOCK FOLDING KNIVES
I am now making liner-lock folding knives. I really enjoy making and using these knives. This style of folding knife allows the user to open and close the knife with one hand.
The liner-lock mechanism compensates for its own wear, locking tightly after years of daily use. In addition, they may be disassembled for cleaning and maintenance .
