Winchester vintage wood box or shipping crate for 20 gauge shotshell. Marked on both sides Winchester Repeating Arms Company, New Haven Conn. U.S.A., Small Arms Ammunition, Loaded Shot Shells, Made in U.S.A. Also marked on both ends 20 - 2-3/4 - 500. The box measures 14-3/4" by 8" by 7-3/4" deep (outside dimension). It has two carved hand holds one on each end near the top but not all the way through. It has no lid and is in very good condition with aged wood including cracks and tarnished nails. On January 16, 2006 U.S. Repeating Arms announced it was closing the New Haven, Connecticut, plant where Winchester rifles and shotguns were produced for 140 years. |
