If you're looking for a camera that will provide fantastic eBay pictures and will also be a terrific personal camera for scenic and family shots, this is it. Not all of the Mavica FD series cameras can say that. It' a one owner package. This camera has a optical zoom lens that is equal to a 41mm to 328mm in a 35mm camera or 8x zoom. It will focus close, less than 2-inchs, but even closer with the included close up lenses. It has both auto focus and manual focus. You can get in close for big detail with this ultimate kit.

Easy to use and takes superb clear close-up and distant shots

The selling point of Sony's Mavica digital cameras is that images are stored on an ordinary 3.5-inch floppy disk, rather than on little memory cards. That means there's no expensive accessories to buy. If your computer does not have a floppy drive you can purchase one for around $20 which is what we did. We purchased a Sony USB external drive for $20 and it works great. A floppy drive on the computer is needed to look at and use the photos on your computer but the camera does not need anything else to take photos. You will need more floppy disks because they are like film for this camera but they are reusable. The MVCFD88 is a megapixel camera with a true resolution of 1280 X 960, giving it a pixel count of about 1.3 million. That's enough to allow decent-looking printouts at typical snapshot sizes (4x6). We have found up to 5X7 inch prints are fine. In addition to its still-image function, the camera has a built-in microphone and can capture up to 60 seconds of motion video in MPG format with 160 x 112 pixels; video recording up to 15 seconds in MPG format with 320 x 240 pixels; sound recording up to 5 seconds per image. A nice feature found throughout the Mavica line is a disk copy function using the built in 4X floppy drive. It uses the internal memory as a temporary cache, allowing you to copy the entire contents of a floppy onto another disk even when you're not at a computer.

eBay selling takes more time than one realizes. But by inserting a 3.5 floppy in the camera, taking 24 shots and then inserting the floppy in your computer, you've cut out plenty of auction process time! No cables, programs or drivers to slow you down or confuse things and the pictures are always below 100kb so they can be directly uploaded to eBay. The camera can also be adjusted to select 3 picture sizes. They are 1280X960, 1024X768 and 640X480. The first two are for higher pixels (personal camera) and the last is for eBay lower pixels required for fast downloading. It also has a fine and regular setting for improving clarity of those images. You get about 24 - 640X480 pictures or about five 1280X960 pictures on a disk.

your computer has a regular floppy drive

This camera also has a movie mode for 160X112 mpeg and 320X240 mpeg. The recorded movie and sound will run for a maximum of 60 seconds in the 160X112 size and 15 seconds in the 320X240 size. We've  used this feature, and it works well. Sound can also be recorded with still pictures.

No special cables or software needed

This camera also has four picture effect settings. They are Negative Art, Sepia, Black & White and Solarize.
