Alcas the Solution survival knife-hatchet combo. Near
mint (it may be mint but with a black Parkerized oxide coating it is hard to say for
sure) with sheath, cord, papers and it has not been sharpened. It is
12 5/8" overall in the knife configuration as shown in the top photo. A very unique cutting and
chopping package.
Signed Dan Harrison on the butt of the handle and
numbered 2134. It was designed by custom knifemaker Dan Harrison and made
in the early 1980's. There were not very many made of this knife because of some
legal problems dealing with it's designer and Alcas, according to a friend
that talked with Dan at the SHOT show in early 1980's. They are hard to
find, and even harder to find in this near mint condition.
A knife, saw, game hook, axe,
and the tube is designed to be a waterproof storage compartment. Made in
Olean, New York. It won Blade magazine’s knife of the year. The year 1980
is when Pat. No.
4,546,510 was issued. Alcas was a partnership between ALCOA Aluminum and Case
Cutlery located in Olean, New York.
Dan Harrison did three models of good looking stag
handled hunting knives for Kershaw back in the late 1990's.
